The kings of Israel and Judah
Israel had three kings over the whole nation: Saul, David and Solomon. After Solomon the kingdom split. The northern kingdom, Israel, had 19 kings from Jeroboam to Hoshea; the southern kingdom, Judah, had 19 kings and one queen (Athaliah) from Rehoboam to Zedekiah.
First and Second Kings sum up most kings with one line: he did that which was right, or evil, in the sight of the LORD. This page lists every king in order with that verdict where the text gives one.
The text never calls any king of the northern kingdom good. In Judah the verdicts are mixed, and a handful of kings, such as Hezekiah and Josiah, are praised highly.

Why the kingdom split
Because Solomon turned to other gods in his old age, the LORD told him, "I will surely rend the kingdom from thee" (1 Kings 11:11). When his son Rehoboam refused to lighten the people's load, the ten northern tribes made Jeroboam king (1 Kings 12:16-20). Judah, with Benjamin, stayed with the house of David.
The kings of Israel (north) at a glance
Jeroboam, Nadab, Baasha, Elah, Zimri, Omri, Ahab, Ahaziah, Jehoram, Jehu, Jehoahaz, Jehoash, Jeroboam II, Zachariah, Shallum, Menahem, Pekahiah, Pekah, Hoshea. Several dynasties ended by murder. Tibni briefly rivaled Omri (1 Kings 16:21-22) and is not usually counted. Israel fell to Assyria in the ninth year of Hoshea, about 722 BC by common reckoning.
The kings of Judah (south) at a glance
Rehoboam, Abijam, Asa, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, Ahaziah, (Queen Athaliah), Joash, Amaziah, Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, Manasseh, Amon, Josiah, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, Zedekiah. Every king came from the line of David; Queen Athaliah, a daughter of the house of Ahab, was the one ruler who did not. Judah fell to Babylon under Zedekiah, about 586 BC by common reckoning; scholars differ by a year or so.
Same names, different kings
Both kingdoms had a Jehoram (Joram), an Ahaziah, a Jehoahaz and a Joash (Jehoash), sometimes reigning at the same time. Some kings also have two names in the text: Uzziah is called Azariah in 2 Kings 15, and Abijam is Abijah in 2 Chronicles 13.
And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.
