Who wrote the Bible?

The Bible was written by many people over many centuries - kings and prophets, priests and fishermen - and Scripture says the writers were moved by God: "holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost" (2 Peter 1:21). 43 of its 66 books name their writer, 16 are credited by Jewish or Christian tradition, and 7 are anonymous.

Below, every book with its writer. Where the book names its writer, we quote the verse; where it does not, we say so, and give the traditional view as tradition. Every quotation is checked word for word against the King James text.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2 Timothy 3:16 · KJV

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
