The story

The LORD God formed man out of the dust of the ground. He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. Then God planted a beautiful garden in Eden and put the man there to take care of it. Every kind of tree grew there that was pleasant to look at and good for food. In the middle of the garden stood the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:7-9, 2:15

God told the man he could freely eat from every tree in the garden except one. He must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God brought the animals and the birds to Adam to see what he would call them, and whatever Adam called them, that was their name. But none of them was a helper right for Adam. So God made a deep sleep fall on Adam, took one of his ribs, and made a woman, and brought her to the man. Genesis 2:16-22

The serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field. He asked the woman what God had really said, and then told her, Ye shall not surely die. The fruit looked good, so she took it and ate, and gave some to her husband, and he ate too. Right away they knew they had done wrong, and they hid from God among the trees. God called out, Where art thou? Adam blamed the woman and the woman blamed the serpent. God sent them out of the garden, but first he made them coats of skins and clothed them. Genesis 3:1-24
