Moses and the Red Sea
Exodus 14 · 8 questions · ages 7-9
“The LORD shall fight for you”
Exodus 14:14 (KJV)
The story
God had brought the children of Israel out of Egypt, but Pharaoh changed his mind. He asked why he had let them go, and he made ready his chariot. He took six hundred chosen chariots and all the chariots of Egypt, with captains over every one of them. The Egyptians raced after Israel and caught up with them while they were camping by the sea. Exodus 14:5-9
When the people saw the Egyptians marching after them, they were very afraid, and they cried out to the LORD. They told Moses it would have been better to stay in Egypt. But Moses said, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. Then the pillar of the cloud moved and stood behind Israel, right between them and the Egyptians, so that no one could come near all night. Exodus 14:10-20
God told Moses to lift up his rod and stretch out his hand over the sea. Moses stretched out his hand, and the LORD sent a strong east wind all that night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. The children of Israel walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, and the waters were a wall on their right hand and on their left. The Egyptians chased after them, but God took off their chariot wheels. Then Moses stretched out his hand again, the sea came back, and the LORD saved Israel that day. Exodus 14:21-30
