“Salvation is of the LORD.”

Jonah 2:9 (KJV)

The story

The word of the LORD came to Jonah and told him to arise and go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it, because their wickedness had come up before God. But Jonah did not want to go. He rose up to flee to Tarshish, which was the other way. He went down to Joppa, found a ship going to Tarshish, paid the fare, and went down into it to get away from the presence of the LORD. Jonah 1:1-3

But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest, so that the ship was likely to be broken. The sailors were afraid and threw the cargo into the sea to make the ship lighter. Jonah had gone down into the sides of the ship and was fast asleep. The shipmaster woke him and told him to call upon his God. Then they cast lots to find out who was to blame, and the lot fell upon Jonah. He told them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land. Jonah 1:4-9

Jonah told them the storm was his fault and said, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea. The men rowed hard to reach land instead, but they could not. At last they threw him into the sea, and the sea ceased from her raging. Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. There he prayed to the LORD his God and said, Salvation is of the LORD. Then the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. Jonah 1:10-2:10
