The story
Jesus told a story about a certain man who had two sons. The younger son came to his father and said, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. So the father divided his living between them. Not many days after, the younger son gathered everything together and took his journey into a far country. There he wasted all he had with riotous living. Luke 15:11-13
When he had spent it all, a mighty famine came in that land, and he began to be in want. He went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine. He was so hungry that he would gladly have eaten the husks that the swine did eat, and no man gave him anything. Then he came to himself and said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! Luke 15:14-17
He decided to go home and say, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. So he arose and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. The father called for the best robe, a ring for his hand, and shoes for his feet, and had the fatted calf killed for a feast. He said, For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. Luke 15:18-24
