“Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.”

Genesis 6:22 (KJV)

The story

In Noah's day the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and it grieved God at his heart. God decided he would blot out what he had made, but Noah stood apart from everyone else. Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD, for he was a just man, perfect in his generations, and he walked with God. Genesis 6:5-9

God told Noah to build an ark of gopher wood, coated with pitch inside and out so it would not leak. It was to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high, with a window, a door in the side, and lower, second, and third stories. God promised to keep his covenant with Noah and to bring Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives safely inside. Genesis 6:14-18

God brought the animals to Noah, two of every sort, male and female, and of the clean beasts by sevens (Genesis 7:2). Noah did all that God commanded him. When Noah was six hundred years old the rain fell for forty days and forty nights, the waters rose, and the ark floated safely above the earth while the LORD shut Noah in (Genesis 7:16). Genesis 7:6-12

After many days God remembered Noah and made a wind blow so the waters went down, and the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat. Noah sent out a raven and then a dove; the second time the dove came back with an olive leaf in her mouth, showing the water was gone. When everyone came out, Noah built an altar to worship God, and God set his bow in the cloud as the sign of his covenant never to flood the whole earth again. Genesis 8:1-11, 9:13
