Bible verses about comfort
The Bible calls God "the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort" who "comforteth us in all our tribulation" (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Jesus promised the Holy Spirit as "another Comforter" (John 14:16), and said "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted" (Matthew 5:4).
In older English, to comfort meant both to console and to strengthen, and the King James Version uses it both ways. Biblical comfort is not only a soft word; it is God's help that holds you up.
The verses below show God as the source of comfort, the Holy Spirit as the Comforter Jesus promised, God's comfort for those who mourn, the comfort of the Scriptures, and the call to pass comfort on to others.
