Bible verses about gratitude

The Bible calls believers to be thankful to God in every circumstance, not only when things go well. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. The Psalms give the reason again and again: give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever.

In the Bible, gratitude is less a feeling than a habit. People give thanks before meals, in prison, in a storm at sea, and in the belly of a fish. The Psalms turn it into a refrain sung together.

These verses are grouped by why we give thanks, when to give thanks, how gratitude grows into contentment, and examples of people who said thank you, along with one who did not.
