Bible verses about joy
The Bible presents joy as a gift that comes from God's presence, not from easy circumstances. Nehemiah 8:10 says the joy of the LORD is your strength, Psalm 16:11 says in thy presence is fulness of joy, and Philippians 4:4 says, Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
Biblical joy is often found in surprising places: a prison at midnight, a failed harvest, a field of sowing in tears. That is because it rests on who God is rather than on how the day is going.
The verses below are grouped by where joy comes from, joy that holds in hard times, the joy Jesus promised, joy expressed out loud, and the joy that heaven itself feels.
Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
