Bible verses about patience

The Bible teaches patience as waiting on God's timing, enduring hard things without giving up, and being slow to anger with people. Isaiah 40:31 says they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength, and James 1:3-4 says the trying of your faith worketh patience. The Bible also shows that God is patient with us first.

The King James Version has several words for patience. 'Patience' usually means steady endurance under pressure. 'Longsuffering' means putting up with people for a long time without striking back. 'Wait on the LORD' means trusting God's timing. All three are on this page.

The verses are grouped by those kinds of patience, followed by examples and by God's own patience, which is the reason we can be patient with others.
