Bible verses about protection
The Bible describes God as a refuge, fortress, shield and keeper for those who trust him. Psalm 91 and Psalm 121 are the best-known protection passages: the LORD is my refuge and my fortress, and the LORD shall preserve thee from all evil. The New Testament adds that no one can pluck Christ's people out of his hand.
Biblical writers reached for strong, physical pictures to describe God's protection: a rock, a high tower, a shield, the shadow of wings, mountains around a city, a wall of fire. Many of these come from David, who wrote while being hunted by enemies.
The verses below are grouped by those pictures. They are honest, too: Jesus prayed that his followers would be kept from evil, not taken out of the world, and the same Bible records believers who suffered. The promise is God's keeping presence, not a life without trouble.
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
